The Department of Veterinary Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time assistant professor clinical-track, faculty position in Veterinary Medical Emergency Management. Candidates must have a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree. Applicants that have documented experience in emergency management, managing a variety of different species at the population level, and working with professionals from varied disciplines ranging from animal sheltering to production animal systems are desired. Applicants are required to have interest, experience, training and expertise in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. Applicants must meet requirements for licensure in the State of Texas.
The academic home of faculty members is the Large Animal Clinical Sciences Department at Texas A&M University. The Texas A&M VET provides a clinical rotation on veterinary medical emergency management in the senior year of the professional curriculum. This rotation, in addition to educating students in the veterinary medical emergency management discipline, provides subject matter-expertise and assistance in the development of local-level animal focused emergency plans. The Texas A&M VET is also the State of Texas deployable veterinary medical resource. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute primarily to this effort in a collegial and collaborative manner to provide innovative methods to achieve the teaching and emergency management missions of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, while participating collaboratively in research and other scholarly activities.
The Texas A&M VET is one of the nation’s preeminent veterinary medical emergency management units. The team has developed a wide range of emergency plans covering the variety of animal-based needs during disasters. The Texas A&M VET has an extensive deployment history and have deployed to a wide range of incident types including hurricanes, wildfires, flooding, tornados and high consequence infectious diseases. The team has acquired and maintained a robust cache of emergency response equipment allowing the team to function effectively in the austere environment of the disaster setting.
