The Ann Arbor Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced full-time or part-time daytime veterinarian who desires both general practice and emergency patients.   We are a 24-hour AAHA accredited hospital that has been serving Ann Arbor and the surrounding area for 90 years.  This position offers the opportunity to see established general practice clients, emergency outpatients, practice soft-tissue surgery, and manage inpatients hospitalized in our new ICU.    The schedule consists largely of weekday shifts with rotating weekends and holidays.   Our facility is state of the art with all the tools to practice excellent medicine including  highly skilled licensed veterinary technicians, an expanded, newly updated state-of-the-art ICU, advanced anesthetic monitoring, anesthetic ventilator, ultrasound, Ligasure, and visiting internists and cardiologists.  This is a unique opportunity to practice both general and emergency medicine while working directly alongside other veterinarians- shifts are never solo.   Our ideal candidate has completed a rotating internship, is experienced with general practice patients, or has two year’s of emergency medicine experience.  Compensation package is competitive including CE, health insurance, SIMPLE IRA, license fees, national/local association dues, etc. Our unique standing in the metro Ann Arbor area makes our hospital a personally and professionally rewarding opportunity.   1. Medical & Surgical:
    1. Works with Leadership Team (Owner, Colleagues, Director, and Hospital Manager) to set hospital policies and procedures; performs all duties in accordance with them.
    2. Performs physical examinations and other appropriate diagnostic procedures; diagnoses medical or surgical conditions and presents treatment alternatives to the client.
    3. Performs medical and surgical (if scheduled in Sx) procedures; provides emergency services in accordance with hospital policy.
    4. Promptly and accurately updates client records (including completing medical records, treatment plans and rounding before the start and before the end of each shift).
    5. Plans and carries out a significant program of personal medical continuing education.
    6. We encourage maximum use of the hospital’s CE benefit for continuous expanding and improving of veterinary skills in order to stay current, or at the front, of the veterinary profession.
    7. After attending CE, DVMs are encouraged to share important points / learnings to help improve and update the entire hospital’s level of patient care.

 

  1. Human Resources:
    1. Plays a leadership role with LVTs and Assistants; works with them to assess their current skill level then encourages and assists them with both professional and personal growth (proactive coaching).
    2. Delivers in-house medical training to staff.
    3. Is accessible by staff while maintaining doctor/staff professional relationship.

 

  1. Client Relations:
    1. Takes time to communicate in a warm, clear, and concise manner with clients, presenting them with treatment alternatives while being sensitive to their emotional needs and financial status.
    2. Sets an example for the staff in dealing with clients; promotes the concept of a client-centered environment.
    3. Helps to develop new programs / procedures and works to leverage existing programs / procedures that are designed to meet client needs based on changing medical developments, client needs, etc.
    4. Is sensitive to clients’ and patients’ best interests including making referral options for treatment.

 

  1. Practice Leadership:
    1. Leads by example regarding a positive, fun working environment that strives to provide benchmark patient care.
    2. Maintains a professional, positive attitude even under stress.
    3. Communicates objectives, motivates staff, builds and maintains morale; maintains core values.
    4. Attends both DVM and Staff Meetings as an active participant encouraging staff members’ involvement.
    5. Promotes cooperative working environment among staff members; understands the value of teamwork; shows enthusiasm and willingness to perform as necessary to help the hospital function as a cohesive, high performing team.
