Despite the pandemic we are still hiring! Though if you prefer to take some time off before starting we are ok with that.
Fast growing three doctor practice needs a fantastic new associate. The owner, a CSU graduate founded the practice in 2003. She is passionate about surgery, oncology, reproduction, acupuncture and not selling to a corporate consolidator. She is willing to entertain associates buying into the practice after you are established. Later this year, the practice will move into the new 8,500 sq. ft. hospital we are building. It will have 10 exam rooms, 2 surgery suits, and essentially a hospital within a hospital for felines. Cats will only need to leave the feline area for X-ray and Surgery. It even has a separate feline laundry to help minimize stressful pheromone exposure. The practice has electronic records, digital X-ray and Doppler Ultrasound. We are upgrading the digital X-ray when we move. We do 90% of all lab work in house using a suite of Heska equipment. We have low staff turn over which means our clients get to know the staff, and the staff knows most of the patients names! The low turn over and policy of hiring nice people means work feels more like being with your friends. It also means that we have a good network of support for learning, and mentoring. 80% of all new veterinarians quit their first job in the first 24 months. Our two associates joined us 3 and 7 years ago. We were their first employers since graduating from veterinary school. They both bring their personal dogs to work every day, and you would be welcome to do likewise provided your dog gets along with the staff and the staff dogs. It is a rare day when there aren't at least 10 staff dogs free range in the clinic. It is amazing how smoothly it works, and when they need to disappear for an aggressive or fearful patient, they head into the office. We believe it is important for all of our employees to have a life outside of work and we work hard to make sure they get the time off they need. We offer more benefits than almost any business, and if you have a need that is not on the list, talk to us about it. If we can make it happen, we will. We also offer our associates the right to discount services and do work pro bono as they see fit (so far everyone has been reasonable, but we reserve the right to set limits). It is an important aspect of veterinary medicine and one that corporate practices usually neglect.
In addition to our three doctors, we have seventeen members of our team. We have two LVTs, two in training, assistants with years of experience, groomers, a practice manager, an office manager and a hospital administrator. The variety of knowledge and skills they all possess make the hospital run smoothly with little drama.
King George is a rural county, but yet close to DC, Northern Virginia, and Richmond. Fredericksburg, where most of our staff live, is 20-25 minutes away and an easy, low stress commute with few lights. We have four major airports within a 1-2 hour drive. Virginia Beach and the Blue Ridge Mountains are both about 2-3 hours away. King George is located between the wide Potomac river (1-3 miles wide) and the narrower Rappahannock which has a high density of bald eagles (hence our name). Boating, kayaking, and stand up paddle board are all common activities. Our local YMCA is vibrant, and we have a Wegman's in Fredericksburg (a fantastic grocery store). While DC is 2 hours away at rush hour, it's only about an hour or so on many nights and weekends. Baltimore, Norfolk, Charlottesville are all about 2 hours. Richmond is around an hour. Many people in the county have horses and other livestock. Which other vets see!
