We are seeking a Managing Veterinarian / Medical Director for our eleven-doctor mixed animal practice. Either small animal exclusive or a mixed animal veterinarian is eligible for this role. We offer a diverse caseload and a wide range of experience within the practice (2-39 years). This allows for a team approach to quality medicine.
We have two locations, in Pulaski and Oswego, NY and our doctors can rotate between offices. We provide primary care and advanced pet care to a wide geography in the North Country of New York State. We have a broad spectrum of veterinary diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. As the Managing Veterinarian / Medical Director at North Country Veterinary Services, you can expect to work with licensed technical staff, highly trained for dental procedures, surgery, ultrasound, acupuncture, and therapeutic laser. We are a very collaborative and friendly team who provide excellent client communication and education.
Your duties will include: coordinating cases to ensure positive outcomes, developing accurate estimates, fostering excellent client communication, establishing hospital protocols, and leading staff members in education and performance.
The Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will maintain medical protocols, assure current licensure of all Veterinarians, document required continuing education hours per calendar year, and oversee appropriate transfer of medical cases.
Financial Responsibilities – In partnership with the Hospital Manager, the Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director is responsible for the financial performance of the hospital. Responsibilities include:
Preparing operating and capital budgets and meeting budget expectations
In tandem with the Hospital Manager, directing staff and the overall management of the practice, under the direction of NVA Divisional Leadership.
Managing of the hospital’s revenue, expenses and preparing an annual planning matrix.
Ownership for the revenue and success of the practice by monitoring key financial reports.
Team Leadership and Management – As a leader the Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will participate in the recruiting and interviewing process for Veterinarians and support staff members when appropriate. The Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will monitor the performance of Associate Veterinarians, prepare their work schedules, and develop compliance protocols. The Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will coordinate training of all medical staff including mentorship of new graduates. Overall, as a leader you will help create and maintain a positive work culture.

Growing the Practice – as the Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director at North Country Veterinary Services you will be joining an amazing team of veterinarians and support staff. A willingness and drive to grow the practice is a crucial component of this role. The Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will partner with the Hospital Manger to drive patient visits and community involvement by championing change and driving innovation. The Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will monitor client service, marketing and NVA growth initiatives.
